Description
This is the eleventh destination in the collection of the series "Ragtime at the Red Light District." This piece is set at Heerenveen's Munnikstraat.
The main character in this piece is a 28-year old amateur biathlete that is on vacation in the Netherlands. This person is doing a penance mission as the main character strayed away from religious life for a decade. So the main character attempts to do his personal cleansing when the person participatrages in penance services at de Heilige Geestkerk, while also meeting with the Roman Catholic pope during a large gathering mass at the city's Thialf Speed Skating Arena.
The main character, who was also an actor in high school, even participated as he played Jesus Christ in a rendition of the Temptation of Christ in front of a sellout crowd at the city's Abe Lenstra Stadium during the Easter Week celebrations.
The day after that performance, the main character began a power walk at dusk and approached Munnikstraat. This person sought every way to avoid temptation as he received full absolution of all sins past. But sin was around the main character, with anyone and everyone looking to satisfy the main character's needs. The tourist does not succumb to those temptations, and in the end, the main character sees a vision of St. Monica. She congratulates the main character for not succumbing to these sins and temptations.
This piece has a format of 4AABBACC4DA. Scott Joplin's "The Sycamore" served as the basis for this piece, as evident in the D section. There is also a subtle influence of Johann Sebastian Bach during the C section.
